General notes for travellers When you start planning your trip, keep in mind that Cologne's german name is "Köln".
On the internet, in ticket machines, and even sometimes in Germany, umlauts (like the ö) are not always available or supported for technical reasons. In such cases, you'll notice Cologne's name written "Koeln" ...which is the same.
The youth hostels adress is:

Jugendherberge Köln-Riehl
An der Schanz 14
50735 Köln
phone: (+49 / 0) 221 - 767081
By train: As every year: Why not be driven to Warpstock, with a low impact on our enviroment? Come to Warpstock by train! Cologne can be easily reached by rail from large parts of Europe.
Your destination is Cologne, Central Station. This is either called Köln Hauptbahnhof or (abbreviated) Köln Hbf.
Exit the central station building on the "Breslauer Platz" side that is in direction of the ascending track numbers, turn left and walk 400 meters onto the Subway station Breslauer Platz / Hbf. Then take subway line 19 in direction of Buchheim (you'll need an adult single-ride ticket for 2.20 Euro which is called "Einzelticket Preisstufe 1b") and exit the tram at Boltensternstrasse. The youth hostel is some 200 meters ahead of you on the right side. Leave the station by crossing the street which is to your right at the traffic light.

By plane: Cologne's airport is called Koeln-Bonn Airport and its international airport code is CGN.
Take a taxi (approx. 40 Euro, 25 minutes ride) or the S-Bahn line S13 in direction of Köln and/or Koelnmesse. This will take you to the central station in about 4 stops (20 minutes) and the ticket is only 2.20 Euro (select code "2000" at the ticket machine in airport's train station entrance).
From the central station, take subway line 17, 18, or 19 in direction of Ebertplatz (your S-Bahn ticket is still valid!) and exit the tram at Boltensternstrasse. The youth hostel is some 200 meters ahead of you on the right side. Leave the station by crossing the street which is to your right at the traffic light.

By car: Depending on whether you arrive at Cologne on the east bank or west bank there's different routes for the youth hostel:
  • From the east - A3 Dortmund/Frankfurt or A4 Olpe
At the Cologne East Junction A3/A4 ("Autobahnkreuz Köln-Ost") follow the A4 in direction of centre town / trade fair ("Zentrum/Koelnmesse"). Keep straight ahead and stay on that motorway until it crosses the river. Then, take the immediate next exit ("Zoo/Flora"). At the end of the turn, take the leftmost lanes to turn left onto the double-lane street that runs along the river. Now take the rightmost lane. You'll notice a tall building ahead of you on the right with an "AXA" sign on top of it. When reaching that building, take rightmost lanes and watch for the next traffic light, as this is where the youth hostels parking lot entrance is. It should also be indicated by a sign like this:
  • From the west - A4 Aachen, A1 Euskirchen, A61 Koblenz, A57 Krefeld
From Aachen, Euskirchen or Koblenz, you'll arrive at the West junction A1/A4 first ("Autobahnkreuz Köln-West"). Follow the A1 in direction of Dortmund until the Nort junction.
At the Cologne North Junction A1/A57 ("Autobahnkreuz Köln-Nord") follow the A57 in direction of centre town ("Köln-Zentrum"). Around the exit named Ehrenfeld change onto the leftmost lanes and follow direction "Zoobrücke/Koelnmesse" that will turn you left. This is where the motorway changes into a normal street. Follow that street on the rightmost lane and (after approx. 1 kilometer) take the exit named "Zoo/Flora". Follow the exit lane until you arrive at next traffic light. Keep on straight ahead but take the leftmose lane now: At the next traffic light turn left and take the rightmost lane. You'll notice a tall building ahead of you on the right with an "AXA" sign on top of it. When reaching that building, take rightmost lanes and watch for the next traffic light, as this is where the youth hostels parking lot entrance is. It should also be indicated by a sign like this:
